Stink Alley

Its my first review

Stink Alley
Stink Alley

Stink Alley by Jamie Gilson is set is in 1614 Holland when English separatists where fleeing to Holland for religious freedom. This book gives you a fictionalized glance at the pilgrims before they went on the Mayflower.
Elizabeth Tinker ''Lizzy'' for short, is one of the English separatists. Her Mom and Dad had died leaving her orphaned in the care of the Brewsters, a legalistic religious family. She finds work as a cook for various Dutch people, including Rembrandts own family.
This book shows how life was like for a person in that time. The church ( of the separatists) was quite legalistic. I thought it quite harsh. Somethings where dwonright wrong such as smacking kids if they whined in church. Also, they threatened people with the fear of Satan. I didn't like it for that reason. However, it was an easy fast read and the Dutch cookies made my mouth water.

I'd suggest this book for teens of all ages.
